Entertainment: Terrell is known across North Texas for its antique retailers, where shoppers can find glassware, crystal, furniture and other keepsakes. Historical: Terrell’s roots trace back to the creation of Texas and Pacific Railroad Company’s new transcontinental line from Longview, Texas to California. In 1873, a group of landowners led by Robert A. Terrell donated 100 acres to the railroad company in exchange for a depot on the rail line. As a “depot town”, Terrell’s rapid growth lead to the town’s incorporation in 1874. With over 1,000 residents, Terrell was Kaufman County’s commercial center. Downtown Terrell drew farm families in from across Texas to trade and visit. Today, Terrell’s Historic District still serves as a charming place to shop, dine and enjoy Texas evenings.
